Joan Marlow Golan discovered the New York Public Library during her undergraduate years at Sarah Lawrence College and treasured it as a resource for research and respite while she pursued her doctorate in English and American literature from Harvard and wrote her book The Great Women. A longtime conservator of the Library, Golan became a docent in 2015 upon her retirement from her position as Executive Editor at Harlequin Books, where she spent sixteen of her thirty-five-year career in book publishing.
